The outstanding location on the Rhine, the railway embankment to the rear, and the distinctive avenue of plane trees, become the main parameters of the design. The semi-circular volume generates a long window front to the river area, protected from the noise of railway and street, and a grand entrance courtyard off the street, which incorporates the existing plane trees and the lush green embankment.
The smaller building additions contrast the calm form of the main volume. They reconcile the bulk of the main volume to the smaller scale of the adjoining housing area to the south. All this results in a complex architectural composition articulating a concise difference of ‚front' (river) and ‚back' (courtyard).
